Some Words from the Community

Every month, we'll spotlight some comments from the readers regarding the previous month's issues. Here's what our readers have to say about last month's issue.

"That cover is awesome." -Mr. 8-Bit

"I little slim on content, but there's a lot of good stuff here. Sidescrollers 101 is a great design feature that'll hopefully help bring some new kind of things out. I hope The HUD gets voted in, because I'd love to see that one. Beyond finishing off the bare basics of a sidescroller, there are countless types of games where a HUD can be useful, basically any genre can incorporate one. Most of the games I've made that weren't RPGs used one at some point, and Mazes of Persistence would've had one (that said "Press ESC to quit") at all times if I weren't slime at plotscripting.

About Ask Fortis, as far as Yo Ghost goes, I think boredom was a pretty major factor. I mean, if you look at the time that sensation was going down, Fyroa's posts about Yo Ghost were about the only thing that was happening, so everybody kinda ran with it. Seeing somebody who's visibly doing something and is very excited about it, who's gonna be enough of a jerk to tell him what he's doing is a waste of time? I know it's not me.

The thing is, this is how most of us started out, just kids with a brand new toy and endless possibilities before us. Let the kid have his fun while he can, some positive reinforcement never hurts. Somebody'll review the game eventually and then the tears will start. " -Kingston C Rockwell

"*laugh* Those (Monsterology art) are great. I love the expression on the Dragon Cow's face. Monsterology is always a pleasure." -James Paige

Good news! We are now offering specific questions for readers to respond to. That's right, you don't need to come up with your own ideas at all! Answers will be posted in next month's issue.

This month's responses:

• The Walthros Mercenaries commentary talks about "lost" projects. Why not share your own "lost project" story? Everyone's bound to have one!

"Yeah, Walthros Mercenaries was a pretty good time, I'm glad I wrote about it. Shockingly, I was wrong! No one else has lost projects." -Surlaw

What can I do to make you write for HamsterSpeak?

"Apparently not a whole lot." -Surlaw

Night of 10,000 Bullets is an extremely untraditional OHR title. What are some of your top non-traditional OHR games?

"I'm a big fan of Stinkmace: The Legend of Dinosaur Triple and Scary Game 3. If locked in prison with only two OHR games, I would pick these two." -Surlaw

And now, questions! As usual, respond by e-mail or by posting on the forums for a chance to see your response in next month's issue.

• OHR NEW YEAR RESOLUTIONS! Let's hear them. Maybe one of them is "submit content to HamsterSpeak?"

• What were your favorite HamsterSpeak articles of 2008 (Volumes 11 - 21)? What artwork rocked you the hardest?

• Any of last month's questions could use an answer.
