James Paige is the winner of the 2009 Surlaw Box! He will receive a one of a kind painting and a box full of garbage the probably costs more than its worth. It will be a mighty treasure chest and we can only hope our winner will record himself opening it.

Some Words from the Community

  • Every month, we'll spotlight some comments from the readers regarding the previous month's issues. Here's what our readers have to say about last month's issue.

  • "I love the graphic tutorials. I am sure they will help a lot of people make better-looking games. Pepsi's review blitzes are always fun to read. It was a bit confusing that his ranking of the games was different from the official results, though. " -Mr. 8-Bit

  • "I would also like to say, excellent job on HamsterSpeak. This magazine really feels like a throwback to the sites of old in the "glory days" of the OHR.
I really like the articles that have been written, and the Retrospectives are amazing, especially for someone like me, who was around when these games first came out. Please keep it up!

HamsterWheel as well is a great idea and an excellent resource.

Keep up the great work guys, you've definitely got yourselves a new reader for both" -Scyree

  • "I tend to gloss through the tutorials, but the foundations article was appreciated. Pretty unconventional topic, and sadly, one of the more important ones we need for map design. I liked it. I might even use it someday.

Good interview as usual, Red. And good interview, James. Good formatting, Surlaw. Good reading, everyone else.

JSH, Powerstick Man was released in 2000, not 2008. (I thought we cleared this up last time.) The Legendary Edition isn't really an update (and I don't think that's what people were voting on anyway). Nice list, nonetheless. Seems like a lot of hands have changed since last year.

Mr. 8-Bit's reviews were hilarious. I never tire of reviewers explaining how deleting a game from one's harddrive is an important step in the gameplaying process.

And while I don't totally get why there was a review for an obscure 90s game that no one has access to, at the same time I'm impressed that MBS would actually spend the time to write it. My impression is that this same level of dedication to old games will translate into a successful run for the Hamster Wheel.

And I think that covers everything. Nice issue." -Pepsi Ranger

  • "How can [this] be my first post without mentioning how much fun I had reading this issue? Still a few articles I haven't gotten to yet, but I am loving it. Also, Re: the cover: BACON SHORTS!" -James Paige

  • "Somehow every issue uses some term that causes me to immediately open up Wikipedia. This month's term: Polybius." -Stewie
