Spoonweaver has rapidly made a name for himself in the OHRRPGCE
community by having a fantastic comprehension of plotscripting, and the
ability to churn out games at a truly prodigious rate. While the
content of some of these is open to interpretation,
Slimes is perhaps
his best game so far, and I'll explain why in three simple sentances.
(1)
Slimes has a simple
premise and easy, responsive controls that make
it accessible to a wide range of players.
Slimes basic premise is to get
five slimes from a starting point to an
exit before time expires, or losing all five slimes. There are a host
of traps, monsters, and obstacles which much be overcome by the clever
application of various 'tools', such as blocks, pipes that raise the
elevation of slimes, and even two unique 'buffs' to turn your slimes
into other types. The game uses mouse controls to move a cursor around
the screen, clicking icons for tools and assigning each tool's effect
on the game's 'play screen' in real time. Thus, foresight and quick
reactions go hand in hand to ensure your slimes don't fall prey to one
of the game's many, MANY traps.
(2)
Slimes has a beautifully
crafted environment with elegant graphics
and appropriate sound effects to set a playful atmosphere.
Spoonweaver has chosen a bright and colorful color palette to work with
- slimes of different colors pop out and attract the player's attention
right away with their distinctive 'bouncing' movement, and clever
expressions (such as when falling, or bursting into flames). The sound
effects and music compliment this, assaulting your ears with delightful
pops when slimes explode, brilliant whooses of flame when they catch
fire, and overjoyed cheers when a slime finally reaches its goal. The
music is catchy, loops well, and has a rhythmic, techo feel to it.
(3)
Slimes is a game I would
show my mother.
This game OOZES a professional feel to it (pun intended). While
comically violent, this game isn't extreme about it, and it's even
appropriate for children. It has a unique charm that is sure to delight
a wide range of people - and is appropriate to recommend.
Slimes live. Villagers die.
