2012 Random Collaboration Contest Restults
Compiled by Spoonweaver

Now we've arrived at the end of this fine contest. Though it had a rocky start as a 6 month long snore fest, it's grown into so much more. The caliber of games created for this contest goes far beyond what I had ever hoped would be created for this contest when it first started. What had started out as a crazy experiment to get people who might never have been in contact with each other before to make a game together just to see how crazy it would be, has become a contest that's yielded amazing results. I hope that this contest will soon be considered a staple in the OHR annual contest arena. Anyways, you readers didn't come here to learn about the history of this contest. You came here to see who won. Well, I'm saving that for last, so keep your shirts on and prepare for last place first.

In last place, but certainly not least we have Alice Falls Asleep. When I first saw this game I thought it was going to be based off of Alice in Wonderland, but be a more boring version where all Alice does is fall asleep. What I found instead is a unique game that's not only fun to play but challenging too. I believe that this game's major flaws were that it was too challenging in the later levels which frustrated some of the voters. But also it's game design can be seen as overly simplistic when compared to some of the other games in this contest.

In third place, we have a complex little game from the minds of TMC and SDhawk. This game has a pretty high difficulty level and there's a lot to take in at first when you begin playing. However, once you get into the swing of things it gets pretty fun. I think that the main thing holding this game back from winning wasn't it's difficulty of complexity. It was it's lack of polish. Lacking certain things like a title screen, or simply having it turned off are examples of this, but the other things are a lot more subtle. I think this game could have taken first it this wasn't a week long contest. Then again, things didn't look too bright in the 6 month contest, so who knows really. In any cause Ortega Colonies turned out really good, and should be played by everyone.

I entered my own contest. It's become normal for contest holders to enter their own contests here in the OHR community, but it still felt weird to me. Having a partner made it less weird to me, and so I let him take the lead as far as things like story and concept were concerned. I had wanted to make a spooky game anyways, so I'm not sure I would have objected anyways. Master K turned out to be great to work with. He got a bunch of graphics done right up front and kept mapping and drawing until there was almost nothing left to be done. In truth we had finished pretty early but waited to upload in order to do some much needed testing and bug fixing. I'm really glad with how the game turned out, and can't thank Master K enough for all his work.

And so, it seems James has won another one. With James winning a couple contests in the past, I'd like to think of this win as thespazztikone's. Way to go dude. thespazztikone really delivered a masterpiece here. With puzzle like battles and high quality graphics, the likes of which are not often seen on the OHR, I'm glad to have lost to such a good game. Above all, I'd say it was this game's story that really set it above the rest. With an almost complete lack of story featured in the other games this game really did seem to have a big advantage in that category.
